Hrdwtr is a moniker for Jason Sylvester, a singer-songwriter from the Greater Vancouver Area. He has shared the stage with other local acts like Jonathan Inc., The End Tree, Coalmont, The Magician and the Gates of Love, Zaac Pick, Luke Agawin and Jamison Troy.
Since his last musical project with the alt-pop-rock band The Kodiak Nightlife, Jason decided to move on with his own singer-songwriter style and went back to the studio, with Jon Anderson (Aidan Knight, Andy Shauf, Boreal Sons, Jordan Klassen, etc.)
The result was his debut EP called Hardwater EP. Since its digital-only release in the beginning of 2012, his first single “Don’t Be Shy” has been featured on blogs and college radio across Western Canada and continues to be the lively anthem for Hrdwtr’s budding music career. While the second single, “Ashes Of Innocence” contrasts those hopeful bright melodies with moody dark ones, telling the tale of love’s regrets.
In the Fall of 2012, Hrdwtr asked four friends who were known for crafting various forms of electronic music, each to take one song from his debut EP and give it a fresh sound. The result was a brief but dense collage of eighties, electronic, and experimental arrangements. This tasteful collaboration expanded Hrdwtr’s audience across genres, and even continents as the Swedish bloghttp://klubbace.se/ featured the track – “Don’t Be Shy (The Parish Of Little Clifton REMIX).”
In the Summer of 2013, Hrdwtr went on a short tour with friend Luke Agawin across southern British Columbia and parts of Alberta. Later, in September the Hrdwtr Band performed at Rifflandia Festival in Victoria, BC at a showcase at the The Wood Hall.
Since then, Jason (Hrdwtr) has taken an indefinite break to get married and go to school for land surveying.
In March, 2016 Hrdwtr released the five song Lovesick EP. This included the singles “True Love” and “Of All This” which were recorded and produced with Jon Anderson in Langley, BC and James Molnar and Jay Stewart in Calgary, AB.
“In anticipation of his debut album “Hardwater,” indie-rocker Hrdwtr releases his first single, “Don’t Be Shy,” to the Eastvan masses. Part soothing acoustic, part dancing clamour, the track defly made me and my dog smile…” – Welcome To Eastvan
“Hrdwtr has a sound similar to City and Colour or Bon Iver, and maybe a bit more folky” – Vancouver Music Review
“Jason Sylvester skapar folk/indie i samma fack som Bon Iver under namnet HRDWTR. Tidigare i år släppte han sitt debutalbum Hardwater som du kan köpa HÄR! Idag släppte han dock en gratis remix EP där han frågat några av hans kompisar om dom inte kan göra en remix. Tänkte såklart posta Teen Daze remixen först men blev så glad över den här The Parish Of Little Clifton så det fick bli den istället. Men ladda ned hela EPn gratis HÄR!” – http://klubbace.se
“Sylvester managed to create a great ambiance of intimacy with Hrdwtr’s music that felt like the lyrics were sharing secrets with the audience.” – Vancouver Music Review
